The Surprising Strength of Porcelain Jewellery

Porcelain Jewellery — Beautiful, Lightweight, and Incredibly Durable
When most people hear the word ceramic, they think of something fragile. A teacup. A vase. Something you keep tucked away in a cupboard for fear of breaking it. But the porcelain in my jewellery is anything but delicate — it is designed to be worn and loved every day.
Porcelain jewellery is not just beautiful to look at, it is surprisingly tough. I once dropped my own handcrafted porcelain earring straight onto my bathroom tiles. My heart skipped a beat. But instead of a heartbreaking smash, it bounced back perfectly. Not a chip in sight. That’s the kind of strength I want in every piece I make.
What Makes Porcelain Jewellery So Strong?
Porcelain is created from refined clay fired at extremely high temperatures. This transforms it into a vitrified, glass-like material that is both hard and resilient. Think about your favourite coffee mug or the tiles under your feet — both made from ceramic, both surviving daily knocks and bumps without a problem.
At Fields and Seas, I use the same principles when handcrafting each piece of jewellery. Every earring and necklace is fired with care so it can handle life outside the jewellery box.
The Drop Test — Real Life Proof
Jewellery should be lived in, not just looked at. That’s why I put mine to the test. I filmed myself dropping a porcelain earring onto my bathroom tiles, and it came out flawless. No cracks. No chips. Just as beautiful as before.

It’s proof that my porcelain earrings are delicate in style but strong enough for everyday wear — the perfect combination of beauty and durability.
Why Porcelain Jewellery is Perfect for Everyday Wear
Aside from strength, porcelain jewellery is wonderfully lightweight, making it comfortable enough to wear all day. My designs also use high-quality, hypoallergenic metals, perfect for sensitive ears.
This means you can enjoy elegant design, everyday comfort, and impressive durability — all in one beautiful, Australian-made piece.
